Introduction to Laser Cutting for Makers/Artists
Ballarat Hackerspace
18:30 – 20:30
The Ballarat Hackerspace is hosting "Introduction to Laser Cutting for Makers and Artists" workshops on the 3rd Wednesday of every month. Whether you're an amateur maker, artist, professional product designer/prototyper, or just keen learner of hands-on crafts, this is a casual workshop evening for adults of all skill levels to learn how laser cutters work, go through the workflow from creating/finding artwork and editing/formatting the files, to a small finished product/item that you can take home with you. Absolutely no experience necessary, volunteer members of the Hackerspace will be on hand to show you through the process. We're also doing "Introduction to 3D Printing" workshops on the 1st Wedneday of every month. Check our website for more details if you're interested in that. Tickets are required, and bookings close 48 hours before the event so that we can plan appropriately for numbers. These workshops are 18+ only due to insurance/liability reasons. Tickets are free for existing members of the Hackerspace. If you're currently a member and wish to attend, please make sure you're logged in to TidyHQ and the free ticket below will process for you.

Tabletop gaming at the Ballarat Hackerspace! Come join us to play some board and tabletop games casually. Games will vary between those at the space, and we will have a few games going at the same time. This meetup will be held the first Sunday of each month. Families welcome, but you'll be responsible for your own kids. We will bring some easier games too! If you are bringing kids, please put their age in the "Details" section below, so we know the age range to bring games for. Suggested five years old plus. Please get a ticket for everyone that will be playing. Money will go towards getting some snacks for afternoon tea. Tea and coffee provided. Soft drinks and Zooper Doopers are $1/ea in the fridge. If people would like to come that aren't playing, that's OK, we will have somewhere for them to sit. If *you* have some games you'd like to bring, please let us know! That would be great, and we will be aiming to try lots of games over the sessions.

Raspberry Pi 101 Workshop (2023 Edition)
18:00 – 21:00
Our famous Raspberry Pi Workshop for Beginners is running again! Learn the basics of electronics and programming with the Raspberry Pi, a clever one-board working computer! This workshop will take you through the basics of programming with the Python programming language, and how to use those programs to control real circuits. Completing this course will introduce you to skills needed for home automation, Internet-Of-Things (IoT), robotics, software development, and more future technologies. Please RSVP by the 20th of May! This is a beginners course - we assume no previous knowledge of programming or electronics. If you do, however, we have some more difficult things you can do to extend the learning, but the focus will be on beginners. Note the format has changed from previous iterations. This is now a single day, 3 hour course. We will start at 6pm, take a 15 minute break about 7.30pm and finish up at 9pm. Topics covered: Running Python programs The Raspberry Pi interface Controlling electronics with GPIO pins Running servo motors (good for robots!) Next steps you can take and ideas If you can't make this time but are interested, please let us know via email and we can run the workshop again at another time. Important notes! Please read these before you purchase a ticket! Kids above 12 years old are welcome, but must be with a parent or guardian during the course. If you are looking after a child younger and need to bring them, please contact us - we may be able to work something out, but there are important safety considerations we need to discuss. We will provide all the necessary equipment to do this course, including a Pi for use. To keep the course cost down, in this course you will not be able to take the Raspberry Pi home with you, but we will give you the electronics used. You can bring your own Pi in, or we can help you choose one to buy separately from the course. You must register an account on our TidyHQ system as a member, and accept the waiver. You do not need to pay an additional membership to do this course though - you just need the account. You can bring a friend (one!) with you and work together. Get one ticket, but please let us know you are bringing someone, so we can ensure enough seats are available. No food is provided, but we have kitchen factilities available. Coffee and Tea is available free, and soft drink cans for $1. Please have dinner before or after the event, or during the (quick!) break. Make sure to only get a Members ticket if you are actually a member as of the date of the course. If you are not, your ticket will be nullified.
